Rosenquist named Silver Star of the Game; Panthers continue winning streak

It was another big game for the Panther boys basketball team as they travelled across the river to take on Sioux City West High School on Valentine’s Day. Dakota Valley (DV) did not need chocolates, roses or any help from cupid to get the victory as they led the whole game to win 79-69 on Tuesday, Feb. 14.

Lady Panthers shut out Bulldogs

The Dakota Valley girls basketball team closed out the regular season with a resounding victory versus the Madison Bulldogs on Friday, Feb. 17. The Panthers had great shots on offense and played tough defense to secure the away game win by a score of 5228.

Increases in property assessments to be seen across the county

Assessment notices will be going out to taxpayers on or around March 1. Increases from 10 percent to 40 percent of the overall value are happening county-wide for residential properties for the 2023 tax year, payable in 2024. The increases vary from town and township. Schultz helps Dance Marathon

Evan Schultz of North Sioux City, SD was one of more than 500 current University of Iowa students who participated in the 29th annual student-led Dance Marathon which generated more than $1.1 million for the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

CRWS named System of the Year

At the recent Annual Technical Conference held in Pierre, South Dakota Association of Rural Water Systems awarded Clay Rural Water System (CRWS) the “System of the Year” award for 2022. CRWS is located in the southeast corner of South Dakota and serves all of Clay and Union counties, and parts of Lincoln, Turner, and Yankton counties.

Recycling center closed until March 1

An amenity provided by the City of Elk Point to its residents was closed immediately following the Elk Point City Council meeting Feb. 6. The council listened to the concerns from administration of resident’s abusing the recycling center.

Panthers paw down Tanagers, defeat Quarriers

It was a barn burner on Tuesday, Feb. 7 when the undefeated Dakota Valley boys basketball team went to Vermillion to take on the Tanagers. A vulnerable 3rd quarter had the Panthers see their 15-point lead dwindle down as the game progressed. However, DV did what they do best and came through in the clutch to leave Vermillion with their perfect record still intact.
