Elk Point-Jefferson band receives superior rating

On April 3, the Elk Point- Jefferson High School band traveled to Vermillion High School to participate in the Region 1 Large Group Music Contest. The band performed “Symphonic Prelude” by John Cacavas, Arisoso by G.F. Handel arr. John Kinyon, and Kaleidoscope by Frank Bencriscutto. Three judges gave a rating based on a number of categories such as Tone, Accuracy, Interpretation, Technique, etc…

Cross breaks Dakota Valley school record at Vermillion

The f irst outdoor meet of the season for Dakota Valley happened in Vermillion on Thursday, April 4 as multiple Panthers brought home medals. Many teams, of various school sizes, were at the meet. Competition included conference foes, such as Sioux Falls Christian and Elk Point-Jefferson, as well as bigger schools from Nebraska and Iowa.

Elk Point-Jefferson thespians solve murder at mansion

Twenty-four EPJ students put on the play “Too Many Detectives at the Murder Mansion.” The play had not one, but 11 famous detectives including Sherlock Holmes, Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys, Batman, the Scooby Doo and the Mystery Crew, Miss Marple, and Sam Spade and two not famous ones, Kane and Christie. Panther baseball wins home opener against Mustangs

The Dakota Valley boys baseball team played their 2nd game of the spring high school season on Friday, April 5 at home. They went up against the Mustangs of Tri-Valley, from Colton, SD, and were victorious by a final score of 10-7.

Husky track and field finish strong in Vermillion

After not being able to host their home invite on April 2 due to weather conditions, the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies travelled to Vermillion for their invite on April 4. Lauren McDermott had a good showing, placing 2nd in the 300m Hurdles and 3rd place in the 100m Hurdles.

Hughes to attend Youth Leadership Forum

Dakota Valley senior Karlee Hughes earned the honorable distinction to attend the 2024 Youth Leadership Forum at Northern State University from June 2-6, 2024. Many from across South Dakota applied and over 100 were interviewed with Hughes making the final cut.

Top SD HS basketball players return to Sanford Pentagon

The best senior girls and boys high school basketball players in South Dakota will meet at the Sanford Pentagon for the 2024 SD All Star Games on April 19 The boys game starts at 6 p.m. and the girls game begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
