10 years later – Cubby’s then to now

It’s been 10 years – 10 years of upgrades, customers and being a part of the community. In 2014, De Lone Wilson purchased the Dunes General Store in Dakota Dunes, SD and transformed it into the Cubby’s at the Dunes.

City approves severance agreement

The North Sioux City City Council met in regular session on April 15 to conduct many items, including canvassing the latest city council election and approving a severance agreement for former City Administrator Eric Christensen.

What’s New at the North Sioux City Library

Andrew Carnegie had a passion for libraries. Between 1886 and 1919 his donations of more than $40 million (over $1 billion today) paid for 1,679 new library buildings in communities that were unable to do so due to a lack of funds. He was quoted as saying “A library outranks any other one thing a community can do to benefit its people.” Thank you leaders, donators and visionaries for establishing a library in this community as Carnegie did in his time around the nation.

Dakota Valley board hears audit findings

New findings in regards to the yearly audit were presented to the Dakota Valley School Board at their meeting April 8. As is the case in most small towns or school districts, the audit report found a “significant deficiency resulting from the lack of segregation of duties.” The recommendation, per the norm, was to “recommend that district officials be cognizant of this lack of segregation of duties and attempt to provide compensating controls whenever and wherever possible and practical.”

Jazz Band competes in Brookings brings home first

The Panther jazz band was in Jackrabbit territory on April 11 for South Dakota State University’s jazz festival in Brookings. It was a worthwhile trip and event for Dakota Valley as the band members raked in the accolades.

Dakota Valley MS Science Olympiad places 4th

The 40th annual South Dakota Science Olympiad was held in Vermillion on March 23 with multiple Panther middle schoolers in attendance. The event took place at the University of South Dakota where students showed off their knowledge in a variety of science based subjects.

HOSA members bring home medals from state

Panther students, active in Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), were in Sioux Falls on April 11th and 12th for the State Leadership Conference (SLC). It was the 10th annual SLC for South Dakota and took place at multiple locations which included: Sanford Pentagon, Sanford Fieldhouse, USD Sioux Falls Campus and Southeast Technical College.
