Committee helps recycling efforts for city

After the City of Elk Point closed its recycling center on Feb. 6, 2023, a committee was formed to figure out new recycling options for residents. The city closed the recycling center due to resident’s abusing the amenity.

Elk Point PD to participate in grant program

The Elk Point Police Department will now participate in grant program through the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety (SDOHS). The department got the city council’s approval at their meeting on April 1.

Choir receives superior rating in Vermillion

On April 3, the Elk Point- Jef ferson High School Choir and Band went to Vermillion High School to participate in the Region 1 Large Group Music Contest. The choir students had been working on three pieces of music for the last two months.

Council approves Christensen’s retirement

Before the North Sioux City City Council meeting Tuesday, April 2, City Administrator Eric Christensen submitted his letter of retirement for the council to consider. He highlighted some health concerns as to part of the reason for his early retirement.

The Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies played Tea Area on April 5 and Sioux Falls Christian April 6. The Huskies took on the Titans in Tea and lost 15 to 7.

Prouty announces campaign for Sheriff

Union County Sheriff Jim Prouty announced on March 25 that he will be seeking a full term as Union County Sheriff after his appointment by the Union County Commission to serve as the interim Sheriff of Union County after the untimely passing of long-time Sheriff Dan Limoges.

Dakota Valley Baseball wins home opener

Dakota Valley took down Baltic handedly in their 1st ballgame of the season, at home, on March 29. The final was 12-3 to end things after Baltic’s at-bat in the 7th. The Panthers grabbed 8 hits in the contest and looked strong.
