Prouty announces campaign for Sheriff

Union County Sheriff Jim Prouty announced on March 25 that he will be seeking a full term as Union County Sheriff after his appointment by the Union County Commission to serve as the interim Sheriff of Union County after the untimely passing of long-time Sheriff Dan Limoges.

Dakota Valley Baseball wins home opener

Dakota Valley took down Baltic handedly in their 1st ballgame of the season, at home, on March 29. The final was 12-3 to end things after Baltic’s at-bat in the 7th. The Panthers grabbed 8 hits in the contest and looked strong.

USD Chamber performs at St. Paul Church

On March 5, guests were captivated by familiar and new melodies at a concert held at St. Paul Lutheran Church of rural Elk Point. The USD Chambers, directed by Dr. David Holdhusen, is the college’s premier vocal ensemble.

Lady Panthers start season with back-to-back wins

The Panther softball team started their 2024 season off with back-toback wins versus Canton and Elk Point-Jefferson. Dakota Valley played both games at home. They defeated the C-Hawks on March 28 by a score of 19-4 and then took down the Huskies, 18-9, on March 29.

Hauger named to Barron’s ranking of Top Financial Advisors

Edward Jones Financial Advisor Jon Hauger of Dakota Dunes has been named to Barron’s magazine’s Top 1,200 Financial Advisors. He subsequently ranked No. 6 in South Dakota. It is his third year among Barron’s top financial advisors. He previously ranked 6th in 2022 and 2023.

Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies open season with win, loss

The Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies opened their softball season at home against Lennox on March 28. The Huskies defeated the Orioles through the run rule 18-3.

Dunes approves resolutions

A Bond Resolution for the force main improvement project was approved at the Dakota Dunes Community Improvement District Board of Supervisors meeting March 18. The resolution approves the issuance of debt of $411,708 and for the South Dakota Clean Water State Revolving Fund Loan Program to finance a portion of the costs of the project.

Huskies begin track season with record breaking speeds

The Dan Lennon Invite at the University of South Dakota opened this year’s track season for the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies on March 19. The Huskies started off well as sophomore Lauren McDermott broke a school record in the 60 meter hurdles with a 9.60 second finish.

First place honors awarded to Panther Jazz Band

Jazz band members for the Panthers brought home first place honors from the University of South Dakota Jazz Band Festival in Vermillion on Tuesday, March 19. “This was a very tough contest as some of the top Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota jazz bands were there,” detailed DV band director Daryl Jessen.
