Auditions for Dakota Players’ original musical production of On the Road to Bremen Town theatre camp will be held at the EPJ middle school Gym on Monday, May 20 at 1 p.m. Dakota Players will guide the young talent of Union County and the surrounding area through a fun-filled, motivating week of theatre magic! On the Road to Bremen Town production is designed with suitable parts for every age, skill and experience level involved.

Local newspapers win awards

The South Dakota Newsmedia Association held its annual Awards Conference in Huron April 26. The Dakota Dunes/ North Sioux City Times had two 1st place finishes from reporter/photographer Kelly Riibe.

5678! Dancers compete at The Dance Worlds in Orlando

Competitive dancers from North Sioux City’s 5678! Dance Studio traveled to Orlando, FL on April 26-29 for The Dance Worlds Competition at Coronado Springs Resort & Convention Center. Five competitive dances qualified for the studio which is owned and operated by Melissa Strong.

Car wash in Elk Point sees new features

The Elk Point Car Wash, soon to be renamed to The Wave Auto Wash, switched hands in November 2023 and recently opened again in February 2024. Monte and Rachel Post of rural Canton purchased the car wash and have made extensive changes throughout the last few months.

EPJ students receive scholarships

Elk Point-Jefferson has five students who have received large scholarships in order to go into a specific trade. Jayse VandeVegte is going to Western Iowa Technical Community College to study to be an electrician.

Dakota Valley Students showcase artwork

The Dakota Valley Annual Art Show was held on April 29 and April 30 from 5-7 p.m. in the DVHS basketball gym. Works by Panther students ranging in age from junior kindergarten to 12th grade were on display. Students, families and art fans could visit the art show and see a variety of art that included: clay models, drawings, beaded works, paintings and more.

Clements recognized for 30 years of service

The list of accolades for Dakota Valley Activities Director Bill Clements is always growing. Recently, the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) recognized Clements with an award honoring the longtime Panther administrator for his 30 years of service.
